        有一種惡是世上所有的人都不能避免的，但當在別人身上發現這種毛病時，任何人都會油然感到憎惡：除了基督徒之外，幾乎沒有人曾經想像過自己犯有這種罪。

        最根本的罪，最至極的惡是驕傲。憤怒、貪心、酗酒，所有這些罪行與驕傲相比，立即顯得微不足道……魔鬼之所以變成魔鬼，是因為驕傲的緣故：驕傲導致其它的罪惡，它是一種與上帝完全對立的心靈狀態。

       一個人如果生性驕傲，那麼，只要世界上有人比他能力強，比他富有或聰明，那人就是他的對手和敵人。

        一個人只要具有驕傲的心態，就無法認識上帝，因為驕傲的人永遠瞧不起各種人和事，只要他瞧不起人和事，他就無法看見任何比他高超的事物……□

As long as you are proud you cannot know God. A proud man is always looking down on things and people: and, of course, as long as you are looking down, you cannot see something that is above you…
