1. 十字架的道路是献祭，
要将一切献于神，
将一切放在死的祭坛上面，

圣经旧约中上帝吩咐百姓的“献祭”正是敬拜中主要的部份。“牺牲”是祭坛上那已死的动物。 圣诗作者说：死在十架上正是生命得胜的祕诀。先有死，后有生，是永活主的丰盛生命活在我们里面。
在这里，十架不是人生苦难的代表，却是天父旨意的等义词。“献所有”的热诚容易有，回应神的呼召、心意之后的顺服之路却很艰苦。
如祭物般顺服地死在祭坛，是敬拜，是愿主旨意成就在己身，好似成就在天上。从此，对着世界是死的，对着基督却是活的。因为与主的合一，活着的时候就是基督，死了就有益处。
麦斯威尔姊妹的圣诗呼应着《罗马书》12：1使徒保罗的劝勉：
“所以弟兄们，我以神的慈悲劝你们，将身体献上，当作活祭，是圣洁的，是神所喜悦的；你们如此事奉乃是理所当然的。”（新译：这是属灵的敬拜）
